| Our Moroccan Puzzle Box comes in three different sizes and is handcrafted from beautiful Thuya burl wood, found only in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The design is similar to our Turkish Puzzle Box, with a hidden lock and key, except the Moroccan boxes contain a second narrow compartment that spans the width and depth of the puzzle box. |

The Thuya (or Thuja) tree is a thickly-branched conifer related to cedar, and grows only in the western part of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The burl wood is highly patterned with beautiful swirls of "bird's-eye." Thuya (pronounced twee-ya) is a very dense, fragrant wood with a high oil content. The Greeks named it Thuya, meaning "sacrifice," because they used its distilled oil to make incense for their religious ceremonies. |
